Rio 2016 Logo Controversy

Rio 2016 - Teluride Foundation Logos

The Logo for RIO2016 Olympics has created a big controversy, after someone noticed that it was a copy from the Telluride Foundation logo. These days news travel fast, and this time it was to spread the word of this logo plagiarism. If I am 100% honest I can say that sometimes I found inspiration on other logos, ads or visuals to create my own designs, but going to the point of copying the concept is crazy. Why should someone will create such an important logo based completely in an existing logo?

During a New Year’s Eve ceremony at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Olympic organizers revealed the 2016 Olympic logo. However, there are accusations floating around that the logo was plagiarized. Now the creators of the Rio Olympics logo say that any similarities between their logo and the Colorado charity Telluride Foundation’s logo are strictly a coincidence. The creators immediately issued a denial when local media drew comparisons. The logos are so similar that seems like it is a copy of the Colorado Telluride Foundation logo. Remember: don’t copy material, we can get inspired by everything that surrounds us, but we all can be very creative too.

What everyone has missed is the biggest story surrounding the 2016 logo. The Telluride Foundation’s logo may be very similar, but in fact it itself is a rip off of another logo…one that dates back to 2004. Amazingly, that logo was for a carnival in…you guessed it…Brasil
